About Ray Hartjen

Ray Hartjen is an accomplished writer, musician, and storyteller living in Mission Viejo, California with his wife, Lori, and their beloved goldendoodle, Quinn.

With a professional career spanning over five decades, Ray has successfully navigated diverse industries—from investment banking and pharmaceuticals to consumer electronics and SaaS software...

…No matter the field, storytelling has always been the thread that connects his work.

A trusted media source in the consumer electronics and retail industries, Ray has been quoted frequently in national publications. As a contributor to multiple platforms, including his own blog at rayhartjen.com, he writes engaging content on a range of topics such as sports (football, hockey, and auto racing) and business, with a focus on revenue teams, sales strategy, and marketing alignment.

Ray is the coauthor of two notable books:

  • Immaculate: How the Steelers Saved Pittsburgh and Me
  • Me, Myself & My Multiple Myeloma

Both are published by Morgan James Publishing and available wherever books are sold. His third title, The Indy 500: A Diary of the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, is scheduled for release in late 2024.

Since being diagnosed with multiple myeloma in March 2019, Ray has become a cancer advocate, sharing his journey and inspiring others with resilience and optimism. Alongside his writing, Ray expresses his creativity through music, performing and recording with his acoustic band, The Chronic Padres.

A Texas native, Ray holds an undergraduate degree from Eastern Kentucky University and an MBA from the University of Washington.
