About Deborah Hemstreet
My name is Deborah Hemstreet, but I write under the pen name Dvora Elisheva—my first and middle names in Hebrew. You may wonder, why Hebrew? It’s because I have lived in Israel since 1982, with the exception of a brief hiatus from 2007 to 2011. Writing is one of my greatest passions,...
…and I strive to do so with integrity, sharing truth through the power of storytelling. Ultimately, my goal is simple: to bless my readers with a message of hope.
Sharing Stories and Overcoming Challenges
I connect with others through my blog, Hope-Challenged.com, and my book, Connecting the Dots of a Disconnected Life: Hope for a Fractured Soul. While I have plans to write at least two more books, the past few years have brought distractions, including physical challenges such as cancer and the complexities of living in a potential war zone in Israel.
A Faith-Filled Perspective
For me, living a victorious life means being more than a survivor—it’s about being an overcomer. This mindset is deeply rooted in my relationship with the God of Creation through Jesus (Yeshua). Over time, I’ve come to understand that God is the ultimate communicator. Many of my struggles have stemmed from not listening to Him or failing to focus on deepening my connection with Him.
Everyday Life and Joy in Teaching
In my daily life, I work as a scientific, medical, and English editor for a peer-reviewed journal. Additionally, I teach English using the Bible as a textbook at a Chinese church in Haifa, Israel. Nothing brings me greater joy than helping others read and understand the Bible.
