About Joseph Bolton

Joseph Bolton is an American author, U.S. Army veteran, and passionate educator with deep roots in French-Canadian heritage. Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Joseph grew up immersed in the stories and traditions of his mother’s French-Canadian family...

…These early narratives about a mystical homeland known as Québec sparked a lifelong fascination with culture, history, and storytelling.

Military Background and West Point Graduate

After high school, Joseph followed his adventurous spirit and enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served as a paratrooper in the airborne forces. His journey took an unexpected turn when he was appointed to the prestigious United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating in 1989. He went on to complete Ranger School, one of the most challenging leadership courses in the military.

Over the next two decades, Joseph held various high-responsibility roles, including a combat deployment to Afghanistan as a Space Operations Officer with the 10th Mountain Division. His military service spans more than 18 years of leadership, discipline, and global perspective.

Civilian Career and Passion for Education

Following his retirement from the Army, Joseph transitioned into civilian life, working as a project manager for the U.S. Air Force. During a sabbatical, he discovered his love for teaching, spending a semester inspiring young minds as a math teacher at Holy Family Academy in Gardner, Massachusetts. He describes this time as the most fulfilling chapter of his professional journey and aspires to return to full-time teaching.

Cultural Roots & Personal Life

Of French-Canadian, Native American, Spanish, English, and Irish descent, Joseph’s writing and worldview are deeply shaped by the stories of his ancestors. He lives with his wife in Massachusetts, where they explore the beauty of New England and Québec. An avid hiker and skier, Joseph finds inspiration in the Berkshire Mountains and Mont-Orford, two of his favorite destinations for outdoor adventure.

When not writing or enjoying the outdoors, Joseph reads extensively on topics like science, history, philosophy, mathematics, and world mythology—interests that often influence his creative work.

Debut Book: Old Grandmother’s Tree

Joseph Bolton is the author of Old Grandmother’s Tree, a heartfelt tribute to cultural heritage and the power of storytelling. Through his debut book, he brings to life the voices of generations past, honoring their wisdom, strength, and connection to the land.

Joseph Bolton’s writing bridges history, heritage, and heart—inviting readers to rediscover the stories that shape who we are.
