  • Jan Hogrewe: From Fig Trees to Scones : A Journey in Business and Life /Ep3608

About Jan Hogrewe

Jan Hogrewe’s journey from Hollywood to handcrafted gourmet spreads is a story of passion, perseverance, and flavor. A lifelong foodie with a love for baking and cooking, Jan grew up in Burbank, California, surrounded by backyard fruit trees bursting with figs, Meyer lemons, and tangerines. She never imagined that one day she would leave a successful career in the film industry to create her own line of all-natural fruit spreads and gourmet food products—but that’s exactly what she did...

…It all started with a simple question: “What am I going to do with all these figs?” That surplus of homegrown fruit inspired Jan to experiment with fig jam recipes in her kitchen. With a culinary curiosity and a love for fresh, honest ingredients, Jan perfected her Kadota Fig Spread—a flavor that would later become the signature of Just Jan’s, her now-celebrated brand.

What began as a personal project soon became a therapeutic outlet during a challenging chapter of life. Caring for her mother with Alzheimer’s, navigating family changes, and transitioning away from film, Jan found joy and meaning in making something delicious that brought others happiness.

Word of her spreads quickly spread throughout her local community. A chance encounter with a food industry insider—who sampled her fig jam and declared it better than anything on the market—changed everything. Encouraged to pursue it professionally, Jan said “yes” and launched Just Jan’s.

Today, Just Jan’s is a beloved brand known for its award-winning, artisanal fruit spreads, including fan favorites like Tangerine Marmalade and Meyer Lemon Curd. Every product is made with real fruit, less sugar, and no artificial ingredients or preservatives—just rich, bold flavor in every bite.

Now, alongside her partner Kris, Jan has expanded Just Jan’s into the world of baking, offering sweet and savory scones, cornbread mixes, and new heat-and-serve frozen appetizers. Every item still starts in Jan’s kitchen, tested and perfected for flavor, texture, and consistency.

Whether it’s a jar of jam or a warm scone, Just Jan’s is a celebration of real ingredients, bold flavors, and the joy of homemade goodness.
