Yvonne Garris-
Yvonne Garris lost most of her sight due to an unexpected illness. Within 3 months she went from having 20/20 vision to having 20/10,000 and sees no color. She compares how she sees like looking through wax paper.
Yvonne Garris has developed a passion to help the newly disabled person realize that their life does not end when they become disabled. She looks at it like they are starting a new life and it is one that she helps them figure out what they want it to look like. She often refers to the time of her life when she was sighted as her previous life. She feels that her new life is even better and she is so excited to be able to help others find and realize their dreams. She does this by helping her clients identify their goals and then set achievable steps which she holds them accountable.
If you are looking for a professional that has been in your shoes then you have come to the right place. Yvonne lost most of her sight in 2004 and knows what it feels like to have the rug pulled out from under you. After losing most of her sight she went to college and earned her bachelor of social work degree, graduating with honors.
She discovered that even though there are many rehab services available, none are designed to help a person decide what to do now that their life is turned upside down. That is why she started Fresh Outlook Coach so she can be there for others that are going through what she went through.
Helping the newly disabled person realize that their life does not end when they become disabled by helping them set and obtain their goals and reach for the stars!
Yvonne also trains hospitals and doctor offices on how to work with their disabled patients and is working on a brochure for them to refer back to once the training is over.
Yvonne has also found that there are times that families have trouble with the transition so she has developed an intensive program to help the whole family get on the same page.
And if that isn’t enough since Yvonne has lost her parents, her mom shortly after losing her sight she also coaches people through their grief since she sees the correlation between becoming disabled and losing a loved one.
