Kasha Sequoia Slavner is an award-winning Gen-Z documentary filmmaker, social justice advocate, and founder of The Global Sunrise Project. At just 16, she took a bold step—leaving school for a year to travel the world and begin production on her first feature film, The Sunrise Storyteller...

…From Student to Global Storyteller

Her film debuted at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in 2017 and has since screened at 61 international film festivals, earning 31 awards. Some of her most notable honors include:

  • Best Documentary at Carmarthen Bay BAFTA Awards Qualifying Festival
  • Rising Star Filmmaker at Colorado International Activism Film Festival
  • Golden Jury Prize, Youth Visions at Seattle’s Social Justice Film Festival

A Decade of Impact and Creativity

In addition to filmmaking, Kasha has worked as a photographer, entrepreneur, educator, and writer for over a decade. Her contributions have appeared in National Geographic Learning, CTV News, CBC, Vogue Photo, Elle Magazine, and more.

She was also the first-ever recipient of the Kim Phuc Youth Peace Prize. Her growing list of accolades includes the Diana Award, the Shawn Mendes Foundation Wonder Grant for Sustainability, and numerous youth leadership and peace-building honors from global organizations.

Her Next Chapter: 1.5 Degrees of Peace

Currently, Kasha is in production on her second feature documentary, 1.5 Degrees of Peace, fiscally sponsored by The Redford Center (USA). The film’s trailer earned:

  • 1st Prize at the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Foundation (Switzerland) Film Festival
  • 2nd Prize with Art Partner’s #CreateCOP28
  • A spotlight in Atmos Earth’s “Next Generation of Climate Storytellers to Watch”
