Military Background and West Point Graduate
After high school, Joseph followed his adventurous spirit and enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served as a paratrooper in the airborne forces. His journey took an unexpected turn when he was appointed to the prestigious United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating in 1989. He went on to complete Ranger School, one of the most challenging leadership courses in the military.
Over the next two decades, Joseph held various high-responsibility roles, including a combat deployment to Afghanistan as a Space Operations Officer with the 10th Mountain Division. His military service spans more than 18 years of leadership, discipline, and global perspective.
Civilian Career and Passion for Education
Following his retirement from the Army, Joseph transitioned into civilian life, working as a project manager for the U.S. Air Force. During a sabbatical, he discovered his love for teaching, spending a semester inspiring young minds as a math teacher at Holy Family Academy in Gardner, Massachusetts. He describes this time as the most fulfilling chapter of his professional journey and aspires to return to full-time teaching.
Cultural Roots & Personal Life
Of French-Canadian, Native American, Spanish, English, and Irish descent, Joseph’s writing and worldview are deeply shaped by the stories of his ancestors. He lives with his wife in Massachusetts, where they explore the beauty of New England and Québec. An avid hiker and skier, Joseph finds inspiration in the Berkshire Mountains and Mont-Orford, two of his favorite destinations for outdoor adventure.
