  • John Stollmeyer: The Power of Permaculture: Restoring Biodiversity and Creating Abundant Landscapes /Ep 3189

About John Stollmeyer

Born in 1952 in the St. Ann’s watershed of Trinidad & Tobago, John Stollmeyer is a multi-media conceptual artist, permaculture designer, deep ecologist, and bioregional animist. His lifelong work focuses on promoting ecological awareness and fostering regenerative human cultures that honor and adapt to their natural environments...

…In the 1980s, while living in Ontario, Canada, John connected with the Bioregional Movement, which emerged from the back-to-the-land movement and intentional communities of the 1960s. This transformative experience inspired John to return to Trinidad in 1994 to share his bioregional vision and encourage ecological awareness at the community level.

John is a founding member, research officer, and technical advisor to the award-winning Fondes Amandes Community Reforestation Project (FACRP), a leading community-based organization in Trinidad & Tobago. His work with FACRP reflects his deep commitment to forest regeneration and community-led ecological restoration.

In 2007, John played a pivotal role in bringing permaculture education to Trinidad & Tobago by inviting Peter Bane to teach the first Permaculture Design Course in the country. Since then, John has been actively teaching permaculture principles and designing sustainable projects across the Caribbean region.

In 2017, John founded the Foundation for the Bioregional Autonomy of the Orinoco Watershed (FBAOW), a non-profit organization focused on forest regeneration and watershed restoration in Port of Spain and beyond. In 2023, he launched “D’ Bush ‘s Cool” Wilderness Connection Camp, inviting children of all ages to experience unstructured time in nature at the T&T Permaculture Institute, which he also hosts.
