  • Graeme Raubenheimer: From Curiosity to Cape Talk: How One Man Followed His Dreams and Found His Voice on the Airwaves /Ep 3512

About Graeme Raubenheimer

I am a 34-year-old award-winning broadcast journalist and UK Chevening Scholar from Cape Town, South Africa. In 2024, I completed an MA in Contemporary History and International Politics at the University of York, England, graduating with distinction. This advanced research sharpened my expertise in historical investigations, geopolitical analysis, and media studies, setting me on a path to becoming a lecturer in media, history, or politics...

…My dissertation, “1966 and All That: Britain’s Relationship with ‘High’ Apartheid South Africa,” was supported by the University of York’s James Jarvis Memorial Bursary, leading to the publication of previously unreleased British Foreign Office archives.

14+ Years in Journalism: Reporting, Anchoring, & Producing

With over 14 years of experience as a journalist, anchor, and producer for major broadcasters like eTV, eNCA, EWN, CBC, and AFP, I have:

  • Covered South Africa’s biggest political and social events, including the death of Nelson Mandela (2013) and the farm death protests (2020)
  • Investigated municipal corruption, including Cape Town’s 2017 water crisis mismanagement
  • Mentored and trained rising media professionals
  • Earned prestigious journalism awards for impactful storytelling

I have held senior editorial roles, including Breakfast News Anchor & Desk Editor for Eyewitness News on Cape Talk radio. In 2022, I co-founded Born-Rauby Productions, an investigative documentary production company. Our first major title is currently in development.

Political & Socioeconomic Analysis | Municipal Governance & South Africa’s Future

My extensive reporting has given me in-depth knowledge of:

  • South Africa’s judicial system and election processes
  • Key policymakers and political shifts
  • Municipal governance, corruption, and economic inequality

Despite the progress made since the end of apartheid, millions of South Africans still face economic exclusion and lack of essential services. My work highlights these challenges, ensuring that critical issues remain at the forefront of public discourse and policy debates.

What’s Next?

I am exploring new opportunities in:

  • Senior news broadcasting & investigative journalism
  • Lecturing in media, history, or politics
  • Expert research, political analysis & documentary production
  • Expanding into media consulting & strategic communications

By combining historical insight, political analysis, and investigative reporting, I aim to empower the next generation of South African media professionals while shedding light on untold stories from the country’s past and present.
