  • Podcast host from the Caribbean, who’s Engel Jones?

What podcast do you host?

I am the podcast host of 12minconvos with Engel Jones available on iTunes and Google Play. I LOVE GREAT CONVERSATIONS. I released my 1st podcast episode on March 31st 2016. At that time my goal was to beat John Lee Dumas of Eofire.com episode count. Why John Lee Dumas? His podcast has been one I've closely listened to both for its consistent content and delivery. I respected this stalwart podcast host. In my competitive nature I sought after his milestone episode count. This meant I would have to record 1585 episodes in 9 months. The maths was simple. 177 episode per month.

How hard could it be?

After 5 months I ONLY recorded 76 episodes. I was not just behind a little. I was in the range of impossible. I was about to give up but I did not. Thankfully, the inspiration came like a bolt of lightning while attending a conference called Coaching with Excellence by Dan Miller. I remember the moment like it was yesterday. I pulled out my trusty yellow pad and began to calculate what it would take to complete 1509 conversations in 90 days. It would take a lot. An average of 17 #12minconvos per day was required. That would be around 4-5 hours a day.

Would you do it?

Of course not. Are you crazy? Who would want to talk to so many people in so little time. While I am sure there are the very few podcast host that may be willing to do what I have done, my real question is, what is keeping you from achieving your goals? How long are you going to wait before you do the thing you love?

Did I achieve my goal?

No, I didn't. I did not get to 1509 podcast episodes. Instead I got to 1001 recorded podcast episodes. Added to the 76 episodes I had taken 5 months to achieve, I accomplished 1077 episodes at the end of December 2016.  Here's how it played out.
    1st - 4th week - Sep 4th-October 4th 2016 - 77 guests
5th -  8th week - October 4th - November 4th 2016 - 286 guests
9th -  13th week - November 4th - December 4th 2016 - 638 guests

What happened next?

In 2017, I continued podcasting casually until I decided to go for another 12 weeks goal. This time I would set the goal at 800 podcast episodes aiming to interview mostly podcast hosts in recognition of the contribution they make through the artform. I was able to record 813 podcast episodes succesfully. Here's how that played out.

 1st - 4th week - Sep 19th- 17th October 2017 - 159 guests
5th -  8th week - October 18th - November 7th 2016 - 204 guests
9th -  12th week - November 8th - December 12th 2016 - 448 guests

 2018 12-week GOAL

My big, hairy, audacious, 12-week goal from June 12th to September 4th 2018 was to meet and interview 1001 past podcast guests face to face while driving across the US & Canada, with my wife. This journey is shared on our following posts, released daily from November 1st 2018. My wife and I are from Trinidad and Tobago and our experiences across the 48 states and Canada was life transforming. Look out for the next day, it starts at Day 0.

June 10th 2018 is the day this podcast host and his wife left the beautiful seashores of Trinidad for a journey bigger than we could ever imagine.
