  • Dave Mowry: Bipolar Hope: Using Comedy to Overcome Challenges /Ep 4042

About Dave Mowry

I live with bipolar disorder and severe anxiety and have since I was a young adult. I was once a successful businessman. However, I lost it all due to the challenges of living with mental illness...

…Rediscovering Life Through Laughter

After 14 long and difficult years, I signed up for a stand-up comedy class designed for individuals with mental illness. That decision changed everything. I shifted from being controlled by my mental health to finding humor in my experiences. That was the beginning of my recovery.

Teaching Others to Heal Through Humor

Today, I not only perform stand-up comedy but also teach it to others who live with mental illness. We tell our stories, one joke at a time. Through laughter, we break the silence, connect with others, and shatter the stigma surrounding mental health.

My comedy has been described as smart, inspirational, and laugh-out-loud funny.

Blogging and Reaching Over a Million Readers

I write for bphope.com, where my blog posts have reached over one million readers. The most common comment I receive is:

“OMG That’s me! You’re telling my story. I don’t feel so alone now.”

I share my journey with complete honesty, vulnerability, and humor. I talk openly about:

  • Suffering in silence
  • Hiding my struggles
  • Pretending everything was okay
  • Feeling like an imposter
  • Recurring panic attacks
  • Missing moments with my family
  • Facing suicidal thoughts
  • And, most importantly, coming out the other side

My Best-Selling Book: OMG That’s Me!

You can find my story in my best-selling book,
OMG That’s Me! Bipolar Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, Panic Attacks, and more…,
which has sold over 17,000 copies.

Why I Share My Story

By sharing my experiences with honesty and humor, I help others begin—or continue—their own recovery journeys. My goal is to help those living with mental illness feel seen and supported, while also helping others develop empathy and understanding.

Together, we can reduce shame, build awareness, and shatter stigma.
