About Cory M. Coons

Cory M. Coons is a professional independent performer, musician and award winning songwriter from Eastern Ontario, Canada, just south of Ottawa. With over 30 years of experience in music, travelling and performing in popular cover bands through the 90's in both Ontario and the United States in high-energy acts such as “Heads Or Tales”,...

…as well as the band “U.S”, (which toured the South Eastern US in 98’). Then later formed his own Classic-Melodic Rock band “Tycoons”, releasing two independent recordings and performing throughout Eastern Ontario, Northern NY State, and Quebec in the 2000’s.

Cory has amassed more than 350,000 plays on Spotify for his melodic brand of roots-flavored rock. His work with legendary record producer Ron Nevison, has earned him industry recognition from the Los Angeles Music Awards, the Producer’s Choice Honors, The Josie Music Awards, International Singer-Songwriter Association and the Radio Music Awards, among others. With a catalog that boasts several critically-acclaimed full length albums and EPs, as well as a handful of well-received singles since 2004’.

In recent years he released the album “The Long Road Home” in 2018, produced by Multi-Platinum Veteran Music Producer Ron Nevison, (Heart, Bad Company, Damn Yankees, Survivor, Styx, Night Ranger). The album was nominated in 2019 for “Male Album Of The Year” at the “Josie Music Awards”, and he also had 4 nominations at the 2020 JMA’s, 3 more in 2021, and was nominated at the 2022 JMA event again in two categories, “E.p of the Year”, & “Single of the Year” (Americana) for his song Freedom Road. In 2023, Cory had 5 more nominations once again at the JMA event in Nashville, and took home the 2023 Josie Music Award for Song of the Year (Rock) for his single “Long Hard Rain”. *Update: In 2024 there were also 4 more nominations for Cory at the 10th annual JMAs in Nashville, Artist of the Year (Multi-Genre), Vocalist of the Year (Multi-Genre), Musician of the Year (Guitar Alumni) and Fans Choice.

Cory has also been named Best Rock Songwriter for “Long Road (Dead Man’s Dream)” and Best Americana Artist for “Once Too Many, Twice Not Enough” at the 2018 “Radio Music Awards” on The Indie Music Channel. He also received International recognition in the “Male Single Of The Year” category for the song and was nominated for “Male Album Of The Year” at the 2019′ “International Singer-Songwriter Association” (ISSA) Awards. Other past awards include the 2014′ “Studio Album Of The Year” for his  E.p “Share A Little Time” at the “Producer’s Choice Honors”, and nominations for “Male Singer/Songwriter” and “Record Of The Year”, along with “Rock Artist Of The Year” category for 2015 at the Los Angeles Music Awards.

In 2020, 3 CMC albums were re-released on MTS Records. The single “Leavin” was also released, and the follow up single “Good Times Gone”. In December of 2020, Cory released “Burning Bright at Christmas Time”. It also featured Coons’ then 6-year-old daughter, Charleigh on backing vocals, giving the track a real family touch. Another independent single “Far Away” was released in early 2021, also featuring Charleigh, along with the single “Freedom Road” in late 2021. Yet another single was released in July of 2022, “Long Hard Rain”, and a second Christmas single, a cover rendition of John Mellencamp’s “I Saw Mommy Kissin’ Santa Claus” was also released just in time for the holidays at the end of 2022, with Charleigh Lynn taking on the lead vocal at the end to close out the track!

Currently, Cory’s 18 song compilation album, (with 2 added bonus Christmas songs on digital platforms, and 1 on Cd), “Across The Great Divide” was released on Feb 10th ,2023 with MTS Records as well. The music will span the years from 2012-2022 of CMC music. It also features the single and lead track off of the album “Trail of the Chosen One” (previously unreleased as a “single”,) and a second single from the latest album “Another Lonely Heart”, dropped on April 28th (originally from the 2020 E.p “33.3”), but also never released as a single. And now a new “Expanded” Downloadable version of the album is being released in 2024, featuring the all-acoustic bonus track “White Picket Fence”, many photos, song lyrics and opening credits and thank yous in an all-new digital PDF Format for fans and followers of CMC music over the past decade and more!

Cory’s influences are a collection of various genres like Melodic Rock, Roots-Rock and Americana, blended with hints of Country-Rock. He is a respected Freelance Guitar Instructor in the local St. Lawrence Seaway Valley, ON. Cory has opened and performed alongside such treasured National Canadian like like April Wine, Kim Mitchell, Glass Tiger and David Wilcox. This year, Cory continues to travel and perform shows throughout 2024 in Eastern Ontario and beyond, in both all-acoustic and band settings in various venues!
