  • Mary C. Ferrara: Unleashing the Spark: How One Woman Turned a Childhood Dream into a Thriving Film Career /Ep 3232

About Mary C. Ferrara

Mary began her journey in the arts and entertainment industry through improv and sketch comedy, honing her comedic timing and performance skills. Her passion for storytelling soon led her into the world of theatre and independent film acting, where she spent over a decade performing in plays, indie films, and web series...

…In 2018, Mary stepped behind the camera for the first time, co-producing and assisting in directing the award-winning SAG film “Candlestick Justice” as part of the Actor’s Green Room Film Challenge in New York City.

Inspired by her creative experiences and personal journey, Mary went on to write, produce, direct, and star in her own award-winning film, “Schmoopie,” a heartfelt story inspired by her love of animals and personal experiences with heartbreak. Her passion for storytelling and animal welfare intertwine, reflecting her volunteer work at the Quincy Animal Shelter, where she has served since 2008.

Under her own independent production company, Call it a Whim Productions, Mary continues to develop original projects that resonate with audiences. Her award-winning short script “Red Shirt” tells the quirky tale of a woman who goes on a blind date, knowing only that her date will be wearing a red shirt.

In 2019, Mary embarked on her first feature film, “Wallie’s Gals,” a female-driven comedy about a group of women who reunite 30 years after working together at a discount clothing store. Mary served as the writer, director, producer, and actress, showcasing her multi-talented abilities both on and off-screen. The film is currently on the festival circuit, earning recognition for its heartfelt humor and relatable characters.

Most recently, Mary completed her feature screenplay “Girl Aloud,” a compelling drama exploring themes of identity, family betrayal, and finding one’s voice. The story follows Randy, a middle-aged woman whose own mother turns against her with the unexpected help of Randy’s boss — forcing her to rediscover her sense of self-worth and inner strength.

Beyond her filmmaking and acting career, Mary works by day helping individuals with disabilities apply for essential programs, reflecting her deep commitment to advocacy and community support. Her ongoing volunteer work at the Quincy Animal Shelter highlights her compassion and lifelong dedication to animal welfare.
