Doctor Carole Murphy-
Doctor Carole Murphy is the founder of the social enterprise, Purse for the People and host of the Public Radio program Heart Stock Radio.
Growing up in Butte Montana, she witnessed first hand what can happen to the environment and to communities when business behaves badly. Butte is now a Superfund Cleanup site embroiled in a 30 year ongoing battle to clean up waste left behind after generations of copper mining. Historically a rich mining city, Butte fell into decline when all mining operations ceased in 1980s. Witnessing this boom and bust cycle, and the environmental damages, convinced Carole that there had to be a better way. Inspire to create a business based on sustainable practices, Carole left her dental practice in California and returned to Butte in 2015 to launch Purse for the People.
Along with Clark Grant she produces and hosts the podcast and radio program Heart Stock Radio a production of KBMF 102.5, which promotes social enterprise and using business as a force for doing good.
Prior to founding Purse for the People, Carole Murphy built and grew a successful dental practice for 13 years in Hanford, CA finally selling it in 2014. In addition to starting her dental practice, she has been involved with various entrepreneurial activities as a DY rancher and horse breeder. Prior to attaining her Doctorate at the University of Maryland Dental School, she was a 7th grade science teacher in Potomac Maryland and tutored children in the subjects of Science and Math. She also worked on Capitol Hill as an assistant to Congressman Norman Mineta.
